Does the product already carry a data carrier?
The data carrier (e.g. a QR code) links the physical product to its passport. It can be on the product, its packaging or the documentation.

There is already a QR code on the product or label.
E.g. a QR code linking to the product page on your website.- Yes, something else (RFID, NFC, …)
You already use another machine-readable carrier.
E.g. RFID tags in labels, NFC chips, Data Matrix codes.- No
Today there is no machine-readable code on the product, or only a barcode.
Legal references
- Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 (ESPR): the passport is linked to a unique product identifier through a data carrier (e.g. a QR code) placed on the product, its packaging or documentation, as set by the delegated act.
- The data carrier only holds the identifier, not the passport data.
